Community Kitchen

 The Community Kitchen
The Community Kitchen is a Church based community project that provides free, nutritious meals to children, their families and the wider community during the school holidays.  The Community Kitchen started at Easter 2017 as our way of responding to the growing concerns around holiday hunger. In the first instance we wanted to reach out to children, their families and those who are particularly vulnerable to hunger during the holiday periods, however, this grew to include those who are socially isolated and the elderly, resulting in a project that is truly intergenerational, with people coming from all walks of life, backgrounds and experiences, creating a genuine sense of community and friendship.
Since we first opened we have run 35 sessions welcoming just under 1500 people through our doors and serving almost 3000 meals.
All meals are free thanks to the support of the church and local sponsorship. Meals are prepared from scratch on site by a group of dedicated volunteers from the Parish Church and the Blandford School.  We usually run for two days a week during the school holidays, everyone is welcome to come along and join the fun. Doors open at midday and food is served at 12.30pm.  There are children’s activities, as much tea & coffee as you’d like, a give-away table. A warm welcome awaits! The Community Kitchen will be open on the 19th and 20th February.  For more information please contact the Parish Office.
