The Community Kitchen
What is Community Kitchen?
The Community Kitchen began as a project by Blandford Parish Church and All Saints Church, Langton Long to gather and build community around a shared meal. We offer a warm welcome to all but have a particular concern to connect with those families and individuals who are vulnerable to going hungry during school holidays.
Since we started in April 2017, we have averaged 85 people per session at our Community Kitchen lunches, and in February 2020 reached a total of 4000 meals served.
More information can be found on the Community Kitchen Facebook Page or contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
Since the restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 Community Kitchen has been unable to operate in our normal form. However during the first lockdown 956 meals were delivered to vulnerable families and individuals. We are very grateful to the Langton Arms who assisted with the production of these meals. On New Year's Eve 30 meals were delivered to isolated members of the Community once again with the assistance of the Langton Arms.
In 2021 deliveries of afternoon teas have been made, mainly to isolated older people who are members of the church congregation and most recently members of the congregations from Blandford Evangelical Church, The Methodist Church and URC. The food was prepared by a cross-benefice team together with other volunteers, and the themed bags and cards were created by a talented team of crafters. Whilst organised by Community Kitchen, deliveries were also made by volunteers from BEC and the The Methodist Church. It provided an opportunity to maintain contact with those currently unable to attend church. Over 3 deliveries a total of almost 220 teas were delivered.
