What is Community Kitchen?
The Community Kitchen began in 2017 as a project by Blandford Parish Church and All Saints Church, Langton Long as a response to supporting families and individuals who are vulnerable to going hungry during school holidays.
In February 2020 a total of 4000 meals had been served at the Community Kitchen.
Covid and Beyond
During lockdown, with the help of The Langton Arms, the Community Kitchen team delivered meals to vulnerable families identified by schools.
Regular deliveries of afternoon teas have been made, mainly to isolated older people who are members of the church congregation and most recently members of the congregations from Blandford Evangelical Church, The Methodist Church and URC. The food was prepared by a cross-benefice team together with other volunteers, and the themed bags and cards were created by a talented team of crafters.
It was identified during this time that Community Kitchen provides a time for the community to socialise together. Once the Covid restrictions were relaxed, but a return to the full meals of the past was still not possible, we found ways of adapting to meet these needs.
During summer 2021 Picnic and Play sessions were held throughout the summer. For many parents and children this provided a welcome opportunity to meet others.
Regular coffee mornings and the BFPC Community Kitchen Craft Club have been started and will resume again in September.
A Jubilee Tea Party brought the Community together, and we are at the start of another summer of activities, always with food and plenty of fun.
